AB 1826: Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling

 In October 2014, Governor Brown signed AB 1826 into law requiring local jurisdictions to implement an organic recycling program on and after January 1, 2016 to divert organic waste generated by businesses and multifamily complexes with 5 units or more. Organic waste includes food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning, nonhazardous wood waste and food-soiled paper waste mixed in with food waste.
