Overview
Each year Athens Services collects residential Christmas trees placed at curbside or near trash bin enclosures on your normal pickup days from the day after Christmas through the 2nd week of January each year.
This program replaces the former Christmas tree drop off program in City Parks. Leaving Christmas trees at any City Park is illegal and can lead to criminal prosecution.
Collection & Regulations
Christmas trees are usually picked up on trash collection day and delivered to Recycled Wood Products, where they are ground up and used as mulch or a cover material at the landfill.
All plastic containers, metal stands, ornaments, and the bulk of tinsel must be removed. Flocked trees or trees coated with a fire retardant will be accepted. Trees over 6 feet in length must be cut in half.
If you miss the date for recycling, please cut up your tree and place it in your yard waste
container(s).
